Open Mat Hour

We have added an open mat hour on Saturdays from 11:15 am to 12:15 pm.

Open mat is free time for you to practice on your own and/or with other students who show up. There is no instructor, it is not a class.

Open mat is only for Quemazon Aikido members, so don’t practice with friends, potential new students, etc. No one should be training who hasn’t signed a dojo waiver.

Please practice with the usual cautions – no mats near the mirrors, no breaking bones or drawing blood, etc. :-)

Free Women’s Class

DAY: Sunday, August 22, 2010

TIME: 4:00 PM-5:00 PM (CORRECTION)

WHERE: Los Alamos Fitness Center

Aikido is a non-competitive Japanese martial art well-suited to women with its focus on hip movement, center, and flow. Proper technique does not require muscle power. Instead, aikido teaches you to use your inherent strength that comes with confidence, practice, and knowing your own body. It emphasizes harmony (“ai”) by blending with an attack and using your opponent’s energy against them.

This free class will introduce you to the basic movements in aikido in a safe environment taught by women for women.

Please wear workout clothes with long pants.

Interested in a coed beginner’s class? Let us know.

Congratulations!

Congratulations to Shoken on passing her shodan test and Margaret on passing her 5th kyu test this week! Both were well-deserved.

Possible women-only beginner’s class

We are considering offering a women-only aikido class which would be taught by Jane Lin. If you are interested in this or even a mixed beginner’s class, please let us know! We will start with a one-time session. If there’s a lot of interest, it could become a regular class.

CAA Retreat

The California Aikido Association’s annual summer retreat is June 13-19 at Menlo College in Atherton, CA. The dojo wil be closed that week so members may attend the retreat.
